Overview
The M113 usually transports about 11 troops, a driver, and commander. It's armed with a .50-caliber machine gun or an M19, 40mm grenade launcher. The M113/A3 was introduced in 1987, with a bigger turbo diesel engine, better transmission, brakes and steering, and better exterior protection. At about 13 tons, it can not only move over 40 MPH for 300 miles, it can propel itself in water as well. Academy introduces new tooling to enhance the accuracy this new OIF model. The new tooling is for the armor mandated by the Pentagon to better secure the protection of our troops. It simulates hardened steel sides, a special slatted cage that bolts to the side armor and protects against RPGs, anti-mine armor on the bottom of the hull and a new, bulletproof top shield that vastly impoves the gunners' visibility.
